That's The Breaks

That's The Breaks play the Hollywood Casino in Columbus on Saturday, November 14, at 8 PM. They're a local group, and this is a home-city show.

If you haven't caught them before, the first thing to know is that they don't stick to one lane. They describe their sound as playing across styles, and that's a fair way to put it: blues, funk and jam sit alongside pop, R&B/soul and rock. It's a broad reach, and the set tends to pull from all of those directions rather than settling on one.

That range comes from how they're put together. The group is led by Matt Steidle, and the sound is built around acoustic and hybrid bass and guitar, vocals and harmony, Latin percussion and electronic groove. The hybrid bass and the Latin percussion give them a different rhythmic feel than your standard rock band, and the vocal harmonies tie the different styles together. It's a mix that lets them move from a funkier groove to a more melodic pop or soul sound without it feeling like two different bands on the same stage.

Since they're a Columbus group, this is one of their local dates. They'll be at the Hollywood Casino on Saturday, November 14, with the music starting at 8 PM.
