Recital of the Saxophone Studio with solo saxophone pieces, conducted by Michael Rene Torres.
The Saxophone Studio is taking over Timashev Recital Hall on Tuesday, November 17, for a full evening of saxophone music. It's a studio recital, which means the program is built around the students and the work they've been putting in under one roof rather than a single headliner.
The focus of the night is on solo saxophone. Most of the time you hear the sax as part of a band or a larger ensemble, but here it's the only voice on stage. That puts the spotlight squarely on the individual players—their phrasing, their control, and how they hold a room on their own. It's a good way to hear the instrument stripped back to its basics.
Directing the studio is Michael Rene Torres, who's the one guiding the group through the program. If you've spent any time around the local music scene, you know that a studio recital is as much about the teaching as it is about the performing; it's the culmination of a term's work coming together in one night.

The recital runs from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM at Timashev Recital Hall, located at 1900 College Rd N in Columbus. It's a ninety-minute program, so you'll get a good stretch of solo pieces back-to-back. If you're into the saxophone, it's a solid way to spend a Tuesday night.
