Folk singer-songwriter Sam Shackleton plays Rumba Cafe in Columbus for a happy hour concert with doors at 4:00 PM.
Sam Shackleton plays Rumba Cafe on Sunday, November 8, as part of their Happy Hour Concert series. It's a solo bill, so Shackleton is the only one on the lineup.
If you haven't come across him yet, Shackleton is a Scottish singer-songwriter and folk artist who also goes by the Gaelic name Sorley the Bard. His music draws on the oral traditions of Scotland, Ireland, and the United States, shaped by the 1960s folk revival and a blend of country, old-time, traditional folk, and blues. He was born in Stirling and raised across Scotland, and he holds a Research Masters degree with distinction in Scottish Ethnology from the School of Scottish Studies, where he specialized in folklore and ethnomusicology.
He first got noticed busking in Edinburgh, where filmmaker Anthony Simpkins discovered him. Later, he appeared on the Nashville YouTube channel GemsOnVHS, and his video for "Cuckoo Bird" reached a large North American and global audience. On Spotify, some of his most-streamed tracks are "The Lone Prairie," "The Overgate," and "Wild Bill Jones." He's opened for The Mary Wallopers, Pokey LaFarge, Lukas Nelson, Willi Carlise, and Oliver Anthony, and has sold out his own headline shows in the UK and most of the dates on his twenty-show debut US tour.
