Indie rock show by Red Wanting Blue, with support from Cousin Simple, at Newport Music Hall.
Red Wanting Blue play Newport Music Hall on Friday, November 20, with Cousin Simple opening. It's an all-ages show, and the venue is cashless, so keep that in mind if you're planning to grab drinks or merch.
If the name doesn't ring a bell, Red Wanting Blue is an indie rock band that started in Athens, Ohio, back in 1996. They've been active for more than 25 years now, and their catalog covers five independent albums, starting with Velveteen in 1996 and running through The Wanting in 2018. American Songwriter called them "Midwestern rock heroes," and they've played Late Night with David Letterman and NPR.
On stage, frontman Scott Terry sings and plays tenor guitar and ukulele. He's joined by Mark McCullough on bass and Chapman Stick, Greg Rahm on guitar and keyboards, Eric Hall on guitar and lap steel, and Dean Anshutz on drums and percussion. With that many instruments in the mix—tenor guitar, lap steel, and keyboards alongside the standard bass and drums—there's a fair amount of texture to the sound.
