The 11th edition of the horror and genre film festival, featuring 16 features, 150 shorts and 26 screenplay finalists, with the opening night screening of 'Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer'.
Nightmares Film Festival returns to Gateway Film Center from Friday, October 16 to Sunday, October 18, marking its eleventh edition. Co-founder Chris Hamel runs the festival, which he describes as a celebration of genre cinema. The competition crowns its winners with the Night Mare statuette, designed and sculpted by figure artist Tony Simione, and every feature on the slate is playing in the Midwest for the first time.
Opening night is a new 4K restoration of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. The rest of the schedule includes The Last Temptation of Becky, which has its Midwest premiere here, Death Came Knocking, and a double feature of Looky Loo and Looky Loo: Part II, with the latter making its world premiere. In total, the program runs 16 features, 150 shorts, and 26 screenplay finalists. The Awards Presentation takes place Saturday, October 17 at 5:15 PM in Screening Room One, hosted by Hamel and co-founder Jason Tostevin.
Between screenings, the crowd gathers in the Torpedo Room, a bar themed around Jules Verne. The festival closes with Onesie Sunday, when attendees turn up in horror-themed pajamas. For those who can't make it in person, a new online showcase called NFF Outbreak runs from October 19 to 26.
