Jazz vocalist Laura Camara performs her repertoire ranging from Brazilian music to the Great American Songbook at the Ginger Rabbit Jazz Lounge.
Laura Camara plays the Ginger Rabbit Jazz Lounge on Wednesday, October 21, at 6 PM. It's a single-billed night, so she's the only one on the program.
Camara is a jazz vocalist whose repertoire spans Brazilian music and the Great American Songbook. She leads the trio Rio De Bordo, which focuses on Brazilian love songs, and also fronts The Jake Reed Trio. She's released the album Shades of Ellington, and she's competed in the American Traditions Vocal Competition.
Beyond her recording and live work, she's staged Songs of My Father, a multimedia show that weaves first-hand accounts with music to recount the cultural and social revolution of the 1960s. Between the Brazilian love songs, the American standards, and the Ellington record, her work pulls from a few different corners of the jazz world.
