Alternative rock concert by Keepsake, fronted by Sam Gilman, at Ace of Cups on North High Street.
Keepsake play Ace of Cups on Monday, October 19, at 7 PM. It's an alternative rock show fronted by Sam Gilman, who's the songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist behind the project.
If the name doesn't ring a bell, you've probably come across Gilman's work before. He spent nearly a decade helping build First to Eleven into one of YouTube's most successful music channels, which grew to more than 2 million subscribers and over 800 million views. He was also a founding member of Concrete Castles, the Equal Vision Records band that toured internationally and put out two full-length records. For Keepsake, he's joined by former First to Eleven drummer Charlie Root and Cameron Cummings of Rose Gun Vibe, so the lineup pulls together musicians from a few different circles.
As for the sound, the band lists Deftones, Incubus, and Chevelle as influences—three acts that sit in that melodic, heavy alternative rock pocket. They describe their own sound as "pretty. heavy. not so much pretty heavy," which gives you a fair idea of where they're aiming: the melodic side of the heavy end of things.
