Free public showcase of jazz student combos from The Ohio State University's Jazz Studies area playing standards and contemporary tunes.
The Jazz Combo Showcase comes to Weigel Auditorium on Thursday, November 5, from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM. It's put on by the Jazz Studies area of the School of Music at The Ohio State University, and the whole night is built around student combos taking the stage. The program runs from jazz standards—the songs and tunes that form the bedrock of the genre—through more contemporary material, so you'll hear a mix of the familiar and the newer stuff. It's a showcase in the truest sense: a chance to see these student groups perform together in one evening.
Weigel Auditorium is the School of Music's primary concert hall in the university district. It's where the school's student ensembles usually play, from wind symphonies and jazz bands to orchestras and choirs, so it's a space that's used to hosting a wide range of music. If you're driving in, the Ohio Union South Garage is the best bet—it's right next to the Ohio Union and across from the Oval, and it's a short walk from there to the auditorium.
