Singer and songwriter Jasmine Spitzer plays gospel, jazz, R&B and soul at Ginger Rabbit on the first Tuesday of the month.
Jasmine Spitzer plays Ginger Rabbit Jazz Lounge on Tuesday, November 3, at 6 PM. She's a singer and songwriter whose work draws from gospel, jazz, R&B, and soul, and she describes her music as a conversation shaped by stories of faith, growth, love, and becoming.
Spitzer is a third-generation musician from North Dakota, and she started out as a saxophonist. That background still shows up in her phrasing and in the respect she has for musicianship. She was born and raised in Minot, the daughter of two music educators, and moved to the Columbus area in 2017 to finish a music education degree at Ohio Wesleyan University. These days she lives in Columbus with her dog, Rosco.
Outside of performing, she stays busy in the city. She's the Director of Learning Centers for The Salvation Army, teaches middle school for Columbus City Schools, and works as a teaching artist for the Jazz Arts Group. This isn't a one-off appearance, either: she plays at Ginger Rabbit on the first Tuesday of every month, and occasionally on weekends, so if you like her sound, there are plenty of chances to catch her again.
