In The Pocket

In The Pocket play the Ginger Rabbit Jazz Lounge on Thursday, October 22, with two sets starting at 6 PM and 8:15 PM. It's a five-piece jazz ensemble that brings its own take on the genre to the Ginger Rabbit stage, playing in two sets with doors opening well ahead of each one.

The lineup features Randy Mather on saxophone, Jim Powell on trumpet, Bob Mills on piano, Greg Wolfram on bass, and Maxwell Button on drums. The front line of Mather and Powell handles the melodies, with Mills, Wolfram, and Button holding down the rhythm section.

Much of the focus is on saxophonist Pete Mills, a Toronto native whose tenor playing critics have called virtuosic, gorgeous, and versatile. He released the album For The Record in the autumn of 2025 and has received grants from the Greater Columbus Arts Council, the Canada Council for the Arts, and the North Carolina Arts Council Jazz Composer's Fellowship. He holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music and the University of North Texas and is currently the Director of Jazz Studies at Denison University.

The show runs on Thursday, October 22, at the Ginger Rabbit Jazz Lounge, 17 Buttles Ave., Columbus, OH 43215, with sets at 6 PM and 8:15 PM. Tickets are $10.
