Sensory-friendly concert for autistic children ages 6 to 12, with a short unamplified concert, art, music and movement activities.
Immerse comes to the WOSU Public Media Headquarters on Saturday, Oct. 24, for a sensory-friendly concert designed for autistic children ages 6 to 12. It's a joint project from WOSU Public Media's Classical 101, The Ohio State University School of Music, and The Ohio State University Nisonger Center, with funding from Norma Hedgecoth and corporate support from Carlile Patchen & Murphy.
Each session runs about an hour and pairs a short concert—performed by small groups without amplification—with art, music, and movement activities that let the kids interact with the music and the musicians. The whole thing is built around the sensory needs of its target audience, so the environment is flexible: seating ranges from the concert hall to tables and chairs and floor seating, and there's an adjacent quiet area available for anyone who needs it.
