Screening of Alfred Hitchcock's 'Rear Window' in its 4K restoration, as part of the Gateway Film Center's annual Hitchcocktober series.
Gateway Film Center is screening Rear Window on Sunday, October 18, from 3 PM to 5 PM. It's part of Hitchcocktober, the cinema's annual tribute to Alfred Hitchcock, which is returning for its seventeenth year and tagged as part of the city's ARTober. Every weekend in October, the center puts one of the Master of Suspense's finest films on the big screen, restored in 4K so they can be seen as they were meant to be.
Rear Window is a 1954 classic directed by Hitchcock, starring Grace Kelly, James Stewart, Raymond Burr, Thelma Ritter, and Wendell Corey. It runs 112 minutes and is rated PG. The 4K restoration means it's being shown in a cleaner, sharper version than you'd find on a home recording, and seeing it in a theater is the way it was intended.
For a bit of context, Hitchcock directed more than 50 feature films over six decades. His first Hollywood production, Rebecca (1940), won the Academy Award for Best Picture, and he's widely associated with classics like Vertigo (1958) and Psycho (1960), as well as the television series Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1955–62). He received the Irving G. Thalberg Award in 1968 and the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award in 1979. The center notes that these masterpieces continue to inspire some of today's best filmmakers and changed the art of filmmaking forever.
