Workshop on supporting birds in your backyard, making a macrame bird feeder and a walk to see bird-loving plants.
Gardening For Birds is a workshop at the AEP Foundation Education Pavilion inside the Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens on Sunday, November 22. It runs from 10 AM to 11 AM, and it's open to all ages, so you can bring the kids along if you're planning a family morning.
The session is built around how to support birds in your own backyard through every season. You'll spend the first part of the hour making a macrame bird feeder to take home, and then the group heads out on a walk through the gardens to see plants that birds love. You don't need binoculars for the walk, which makes it just as easy for beginning birders as it is for experienced ones.
Sarah Flecker leads the workshop. She's the Community Outreach Educator at Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, and she comes to the session with a background in horticulture and environmental education. That combination fits the day well—you get the practical side of how to plant for birds and the hands-on side of making something they'll actually use.
