Relaxed craft session to learn basic embroidery stitches and create a winter-inspired design in a hoop.
Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is hosting Crafts Uncorked: Seasonal Embroidery on Wednesday, December 16, from 6 PM to 8 PM. It's part of the Conservatory's regular Crafts Uncorked series, which brings a different craft to the table each month in a relaxed, informal setting, with a glass of wine to go with it. The whole idea is to "un-cork" your creativity and work at your own pace, and it's pitched just as much to people who aren't already crafty as to those who are.
This particular session is all about embroidery. You'll learn three or four basic stitches and use them to put together a winter-inspired design of winter greens and snowflakes in a small embroidery hoop. It's a good entry point if you've never picked up a needle before: you start with a few simple moves and walk away with a finished piece. A cotton sheet, hoop, and thread are provided, so you don't need to bring a thing to get started. If you have a particular fabric or thread you'd rather use, you're welcome to bring your own.
Because it's part of the larger series, the vibe is meant to be low-pressure. You're not racing through a rigid lesson; you're working on your own project while sipping wine and hanging out. It's the kind of thing that works as a solo night out or something to do with a friend, especially if neither of you has ever tried embroidery. The winter greens and snowflakes theme fits the December date, and you'll leave with your hoop finished and ready to hang.
