Free community dialogue and healing practices around grief and DĂa de los Muertos, with a community ofrenda, at the Columbus Museum of Art.
The Columbus Museum of Art is hosting a Community Conversation on Grief on Sunday, October 25, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. It's part of the museum's ARTober program, and the whole afternoon centers on DĂa de los Muertos.
The session is built around honest, open conversation about grief, loss, and healing. It's not just a talk, though—there's a community ofrenda, a traditional altar, that you're invited to add to. You can bring a photograph or an object that reminds you of someone you've lost and place it there with everyone else's. The conversation also looks at the origins of DĂa de los Muertos, so you'll get a sense of where the tradition comes from while you're in the middle of it.
Three people are facilitating the afternoon: artist Renee Zamora, death doula Nikki Smith, and acupuncturist, bodyworker, and herbalist Heidi Vanderpool. That mix tells you a bit about the approach—it pulls from art, the practical and emotional work of end-of-life care, and body-based healing. The session is tagged as Multicultural, which fits the blend of a Mexican tradition and a group of people from different backgrounds coming together to talk about something that hits everyone eventually.
