A condensed, sensory-friendly ballet performance by BalletMet designed to introduce young children to the classic Tchaikovsky story.
BalletMet brings My First Sleeping Beauty to The Davidson Theatre on Sunday, April 18, 2027, at 12 PM. It's a condensed, family-friendly version of the Tchaikovsky classic, built specifically to introduce young audiences to classical dance. Rather than the full-length production, this one focuses on the key moments and characters in a digestible format, making it a good entry point for anyone new to ballet.
The performance is billed as a one-hour, sensory-friendly show for children ages 3 and older. If you've got little ones who might get restless during a standard production, that shorter runtime and the sensory-friendly approach are exactly why this version exists. It's a way to get them in the theater without the pressure of a long evening.
This is part of BalletMet's 49th season, which runs seven ballets over the 2026/2027 year. Among them is a world-premiere Swan Lake by Edwaard Liang Wörtmeyer, performed with live music by the Columbus Symphony, and CARMEN.maquia, a modern take on Bizet's opera choreographed by Gustavo Ramírez Sansano. My First Sleeping Beauty sits on the more accessible end of that lineup.
