Professional development workshop for K-12 teachers on fostering student creativity and technical skill in the art room.
Art as Doing/Thinking/Being is a visual arts workshop for art educators, held at the Columbus Museum of Art on Tuesday, November 3, from 9 AM to 12 PM. The session focuses on two things that often feel like they're pulling in opposite directions in a classroom: fostering student creativity and building technical skill. It's designed for teachers to work through how to balance the two in the art room.
This is part of the museum's professional development program, which has been running for nearly 20 years. Over that time, the Columbus Museum of Art has partnered with teachers and experts to build workshops and resources meant to give students the skills they need to thrive. That work extends beyond single sessions, tooโthey offer custom professional development, team-building, and Ohio-approved early childhood professional development, along with field trips they describe as research-proven.
One detail that makes this particular session a bit more open than you might expect: it's open to K-12 teachers of any content area, not just art. If you're teaching something else but still want to bring more creative practice into your classroom, you're welcome here. There are also three contact hours for CEUs available for those who need them.
