Ninth annual mac and cheese festival and fundraiser for The James cancer center, with a 'Best Mac and Cheese' winner.
The Columbus Mac and Cheese Festival is back at The Yard at Easton Town Center on Friday, from 4 to 7:30 PM. It's the ninth year the festival has come to Columbus, and it's still a fundraiser for The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center — Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute, which most people just call The James.
The whole thing started in 2016 when Josh Barkan, a member of The James' NextGen Ambassadors Society and the festival's appointed mac and cheese chair, brought the idea to the city after attending a similar event in another state. The James NextGen Ambassadors Society hosts it, and the goal is to bring cancer survivors together. Since it launched, the festival has raised more than $591,000 for adolescent and adult cancer initiatives at The James. A lot of the volunteers come from the Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Program, and some are survivors who share their stories throughout the day.
