An evening of Cuban jazz and Afro-Cuban rhythms with the Alfredo Rodríguez Band and special guest percussionist Pedrito Martínez.
The Alfredo Rodríguez Band plays the Wexner Center for the Arts on Friday, February 19, 2027, with special guest percussionist Pedrito Martínez. It's part of the Wexner's 2026-27 jazz season, curated by senior producer Kathleen Felder, in a venue where jazz has been a cornerstone since it opened in 1989.
Rodríguez fronts the band on piano, and he's known for his technique and his compositions. The group blends Cuban jazz, Afro-Cuban rhythms, and contemporary improvisation, and Martínez adds his conga-driven energy to the mix. Both trace their paths back to Havana, where they discovered their gifts and later moved to the US to meld the music of their homeland with a wide variety of influences. Rodríguez was born into a musical family—his father was a popular singer and TV host—while Martínez honed his craft on the streets of Havana, absorbing the percussion and vocal styles of Afro-Cuban folkloric and religious music.
