CAPA production of the Dickens classic with dance, music and carols, marking a Columbus holiday tradition at the Ohio Theatre.
CAPA brings A Christmas Carol back to the Ohio Theatre for Thanksgiving weekend, with performances running November 27 through 29. It's a Columbus holiday tradition that's built right here in the cityβan original production of the Dickens tale created and produced locally and staged at the Ohio Theatre, one of the city's most iconic stages.
The show follows the familiar story of Ebenezer Scrooge, set against the poverty and luxury of 19th-century London, but it's not just a straight reading of the book. It blends the holiday elements you'd expect with dance, musical moments and carols woven throughout. The production draws on the work of Charles Dickens, Alan Menken, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Sondheim, with Sheldon Harnick and Orson Bean also figuring in. It's a collaboration between CAPA and Short North Stage, directed by Short North Stage Artistic Director Edward Carignan, with a cast of local and national performers.
One detail that makes this a bit more than just a play: every performance is preceded by a pre-show concert on the Ohio Theatre's Mighty Morton theatre organ, so you'll hear that before the curtain even goes up. If you're looking for accessibility, audio description is available on Saturday, January 18, at 2:00 PM, and ASL interpretation is provided on Sunday, November 29, at 2:00 PM.
