The Contemporary Theatre of Ohio's production of Jonathan Spector's Tony Award-winning satire about a mumps outbreak at a progressive California elementary school.
The Contemporary Theatre of Ohio is bringing Eureka Day to Studio Two Theatre at the Riffe Center, with the run starting November 5 and continuing through November 22. It's a play by Jonathan Spector, directed by Allie Moss.
If you haven't come across it, Eureka Day is a satire that won the 2025 Tony Award and got called "comic gold" by Time Out New York. The plot starts with a mumps outbreak at a proudly progressive California elementary school. From there, the polite discussion that usually defines a place like that spirals into chaos, and the school's leaders end up wrestling with how to build a consensus when no one can even agree on the truth. It's the kind of setup that works because it's so recognizable—the way a small disagreement can turn into a full-blown fight when everyone thinks they're the most reasonable person in the room.
