A family-friendly 19th-century Halloween celebration at the Ohio Village living history site, featuring a bonfire reading of 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow', fortune telling, and themed crafts.
All Hallows' Eve returns to Ohio Village on Saturday, October 17, and again on Saturday, October 24, from 5:30 to 9:30 PM. It's a family-friendly, 19th-century Halloween celebration set in the newly renovated Ohio Village, the living history site run by the Ohio History Connection. The whole evening is built around the traditions of the 1890s, so it's a bit more old-fashioned than your typical October outing.
The night starts with a walk down a lit pumpkin path that leads to the amphitheater. There, Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is retold, and Ohio Village characters explain the traditions of All Hallows' Eve. Each night the story is read around a bonfire, and the Headless Horseman makes an appearance. If you're bringing young children, keep in mind they might find the bonfire reading a little frightening.
Beyond the storytelling, there's one-on-one fortune telling and a 19th-century Halloween party. For the kids, there are activity areas with themed crafts to keep them busy while the adults hang out. Refreshments are available to buy throughout the evening, and the event runs rain or shine, so you don't have to worry about the weather.
