A creative writing workshop led by Rosie Findlay, exploring the connection between clothing and personal narratives as part of the Ffasiwn project.
Rosie Findlay is leading a creative writing workshop at National Museum Cardiff on Wednesday 11 November, from 2pm to 4pm. It's called Worn Stories, and the whole thing is built around the clothes we keep and the stories they carry.
Findlay is a writer and academic whose work focuses on fashion media and communication in the 21st century, and the intersection of dress, feeling and culture. The workshop starts with a few excerpts from personal narratives of dress by a range of writers, and from there you'll be asked to write your own creative response to a treasured garment of your own. You're invited to bring it along or wear it as a prompt, though writing materials are provided if you don't have your own.
The session is part of It's Called Ffasiwn, a socially engaged, anti-fashion photography project developed over more than a decade by artists Clémentine Schneidermann and Charlotte James, in collaboration with young people across the south Wales Valleys. It sits between style-led image-making and documentary practice, and it challenges assumptions about who fashion is for and who gets to shape how communities are seen, foregrounding contemporary creativity, humour and ambition rather than nostalgic portrayals. The title plays on the Welsh word for fashion.
