The West End and Broadway musical Million Dollar Quartet celebrates the 1956 recording session of Cash, Lewis, Perkins and Presley, with Darren Day as Sam Phillips.
Million Dollar Quartet plays at the Donald Gordon Theatre in the Wales Millennium Centre from Tuesday 26 to Saturday 30 January 2027. It's the West End and Broadway musical that takes one specific night — 4 December 1956 — and builds a whole show around it. That was the evening Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley all ended up in the same Memphis recording studio for a jam session that went on to shape the trajectory of rock'n'roll. The production brings more than 20 hit songs to the stage, including Blue Suede Shoes, Fever, Walk The Line, Hound Dog and Great Balls of Fire.
Leading the cast is Darren Day as Sam Phillips, the visionary producer credited with creating the sound of rock'n'roll. You might know him from Hollyoaks, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat or Chicago. The show itself has been nominated for three Tony Awards, and it's now arriving in Cardiff seventy years on from that original session. The focus is on that one night in Memphis, with the four icons sharing a room and the music they made together taking centre stage.
