The Cornley Amateur Drama Society hilariously mismanage a disastrous production of A Christmas Carol in this comedy farce by Mischief Theatre.
A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong plays at the New Theatre from 9 to 13 February 2027. It's the latest from Mischief, the company behind The Play That Goes Wrong, Peter Pan Goes Wrong and The Comedy About a Bank Robbery, and it takes the same premise to a familiar story: the Cornley Amateur Drama Society attempting to put on a production of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol and failing spectacularly.
If you've seen their other work, you know the drill. The Cornley crew battle miscommunication, set delays, actors missing in action and a growing feud over who gets to play the lead, all while trying to get through the story of Ebenezer Scrooge. It's a play about a play going wrong, so the comedy comes from the chaos on stage rather than the script itself. This one follows a televised version of A Christmas Carol from 2017, staged by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields.

There's moderately bad language, some sexual references and innuendo, and depictions of violence for comedic effect, plus a moment of audience interaction in act two. It's a short run — five days in total — so you'll need to pick your night early if you're planning to go.
