The record-breaking West End production of Jesus Christ Superstar, starring Sam Ryder as Jesus, for two weeks only.
Jesus Christ Superstar is coming to the Donald Gordon Theatre at the Wales Millennium Centre from 2 to 13 March 2027. It's a two-week run, and Sam Ryder takes the lead as Jesus. The production comes from Harrison Musicals, who also stage Regent's Park Open Air Theatre productions, and it's the same record-breaking West End staging brought over to Cardiff.
If you're not familiar with the story, it's the Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber musical that follows the final days of Jesus' life, told through the eyes of Judas. The whole thing is carried by a rock score that's well-known even if you've never seen the show — 'I Don't Know How to Love Him', 'Gethsemane' and the title track 'Superstar' are all in there. It's a rock musical through and through, so it's more of a concert-like energy than a traditional play.
Behind the scenes, the production is directed by Tim Sheader, with choreography by Drew McOnie and design by Tom Scutt. It's the same team that put the show on in the West End, so the version we'll see here is the one that's been running there. The show runs for about two hours, including an interval.
