A visceral, radical new version of Shakespeare's tragedy blending real-time digital content creation, physical theatre, explosive movement, live music and spoken word.
Macbeth [re]imagined runs from 12 to 27 March 2027 at the Sherman Theatre in Cathays, Cardiff. It's a visceral, radical new version of Shakespeare's tragedy, directed by the theatre's Artistic Director, Francesca Goodridge, with Mared Jarman as Lady Macbeth and additional scenes and dialogue by Rebecca Jade Hammond.
Rather than a traditional period piece, this one crashes a tale of power, manipulation and self-mythology into today's manosphere, set against a digital world that rewards outrage and spectacle. It's female-driven and blends real-time digital content creation, physical theatre, explosive movement, live music and spoken word. The digital side is built right into the performance, so you'll see content being made on stage as the show goes on, rather than just watching a pre-recorded backdrop.
Accessibility is also built into the design: integrated BSL, audio description (without headsets) and captioning run through every performance. The production is part of the Craidd collaboration, of which the Sherman is one of five partner organisations supported by the Arts Council of Wales, working to make Welsh theatre the most accessible in the world.
