Folk group The Mary Wallopers from Dundalk play the Cambridge Corn Exchange with support from Sam Shackleton, on their headline tour for the album 'Paddywhackery'.
The Mary Wallopers play the Cambridge Corn Exchange on Tuesday 20 October, with Sam Shackleton supporting. They're touring their third album, Paddywhackery, which they've just announced. It's a record of their own songs, and they're out on what they call their biggest headline tour to date.
If you haven't come across them, they're a folk group from Dundalk in Ireland. The line-up is Charles Hendy, Andrew Hendy, Ken Mooney, Róisín Barrett, Finnian O'Connor and Catriona Gribben. They spend their time travelling the length and breadth of the country singing and collecting songs, and they describe their own sound as 'the Clancy Brothers meet John Lydon' — a fair hint at the raw energy they bring to the stage.
Paddywhackery was produced by James Skelly of The Coral and recorded over two weeks in Liverpool with engineer Chris Taylor. It follows 2023's Irish Rock'n'Roll, which was the first album on which they wrote their own material, so this one continues that shift towards their own songwriting. Between the two, you can see the band moving from collecting and interpreting songs to writing their own.
