Puppet show by Theatre of Widdershins bringing the classic fable to life with magical puppets, intricate design and original music, suitable for ages 3 and above.
Theatre of Widdershins bring The Elves and The Shoemaker to Cambridge Junction on Sunday 28 February, with two performances that day at 11:30 am and 2:00 pm. It's a retelling of the classic fable, and the company draws on the Ladybird Book version of the story.
The plot centres on Elvis Schumacher, a cobbler and craftsman who's spent his life making the finest footwear, only to find himself undercut by the evil businessman Bunyan Sole-less, whose factory is growing. It's the traditional tale of the small, dedicated maker facing off against the big, impersonal business, and the company tells it using magical puppets, intricate design, original music and the simplest of dialogue. The performance runs for 55 minutes with no interval, so it's a single, continuous stretch of storytelling.
