A night of improvised music with two duos: violinist Angharad Davies and double bassist Dominic Lash, and clarinettist Tim Hodgkinson with guitarist N.O. Moore.
Soundhunt brings two contrasting duos of improvised music to Cambridge Junction on Sunday 15 November, with violinist Angharad Davies and double bassist Dominic Lash taking the first half, and clarinettist Tim Hodgkinson and guitarist N.O. Moore taking the second.
Davies and Lash have played together for twenty years, and this concert celebrates the release of their first duo album, gwaith anwel, on Flung Records. It was recorded in Oxford's Holywell Music Room, one of Europe's oldest purpose-built concert halls, and carries the weight of their long collaboration. Davies describes her approach to sound as resting on attentive listening and pushing beyond the sonic confines of her instrument, and the record is shaped by years of working with figures like Tony Conrad, Éliane Radigue and Jürg Frey.
The second half brings the first duo performance of Tim Hodgkinson and N.O. Moore. Hodgkinson co-founded the politically and musically radical group Henry Cow with Fred Frith in 1968; his compositions have been performed at international festivals and featured in Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island, and he remains an active improviser in groups like Konk Pack with Roger Turner and Thomas Lehn. This is the first time he's played as a duo with Moore, so it's a new pairing to hear live.

It's an evening of two distinct sets rather than a single combined group, with the first half built on a twenty-year partnership and the second on a first-time collaboration. Tickets are £15, or £13 for concourse, and the music starts at 8:00 PM in J3, which is unreserved seating.
