Informal scratch night run by Troop where artists show up to ten minutes of new work and the audience gives feedback.
Short Scratchings returns to Cambridge Junction on Tuesday 27 October and Thursday 26 November, both nights starting at 6:30 pm. It's a scratch night run by Troop, the venue's artist network, and the format is as straightforward as it sounds: artists bring up to ten minutes of new work, and the audience is invited to give feedback. The promise is theatre, dance, cabaret, live art or anything in between, so the mix changes from night to night.
The first date on 27 October features Natalie Songer, Jude Simpson and Kevin Lim. The second on 26 November brings Madeline Price, Alan Seiglow and Jennifer Shea. Because it's a scratch night, you're seeing work in progress rather than a finished production, and the feedback part is a proper part of the evening rather than a polite afterword.
Troop describes it as a friendly, informal night, and that's a fair summary of the whole thing. It's a space for artists to get new material in front of people and for the audience to see what's being worked on before it's fully fleshed out. If you're into seeing how a piece comes together from the early stages, this is exactly that.
