Spoken word storytelling evening with Nell Phoenix, a performance storyteller, exploring supernatural tales and inviting the audience to share their own creepy stories.
Nell Phoenix brings her spoken word theatre storytelling to Cambridge Junction on Thursday 17 December, in a session titled Nell Phoenix's Uncanny Tales - Ghost Stories for the Dead of Winter. It's presented by Wonder Monger and Cambridge Storytellers, and the whole thing is built around one question: 'Do you believe in ghosts?'.
Phoenix is a full-time, London-based performance storyteller who works across the UK and globally. Her repertoire runs from folk and fairy tales to urban legends and mythology, and she's told and taught storytelling for NGOs and the British Council, performed at the Royal Opera House and the British Museum, and ran one of the best story club nights in London. Critics and audiences have described her as a mercurial, captivating performer with an acrobatic voice — one moment a gutturally charming wolfish growl, the next sweet as sugar — and tales that are full of wit and extraordinarily poetic.
For this particular night, she draws on supernatural stories from Ancient Egypt, the back streets of Guatemala, and her own kitchen table, all tied together by that same question. It's not just her on stage, either: the evening leaves room for the audience to share their own creepy stories in an open floor spot, so if you've got a ghost story of your own, you might get a chance to tell it.
