A raw piece of spoken word and physical theatre by Peter Dewar and Reflect Productions on depression, anxiety, addiction, shame and hope.
MATT comes to Cambridge Junction on Thursday 19 November, part of a wider tour that takes it through Great Yarmouth, Peterborough, Boston, Cambridge and Colchester. It's a raw, intimate piece of theatre written, directed and performed by Peter Dewar, and it's built from his own real-life experiences. The show works in spoken word, hard-hitting scenes and physical theatre to open up conversations around depression, anxiety, addiction, shame, survival and hope, and the impact mental health can have on love, family and identity.
It's presented by Reflect Productions GY CIC, who bill it as more than a show — they describe it as a movement that tackles stigma and points towards connection and recovery. The production is supported by public funding from Arts Council England and performed in partnership with Norfolk and Waveney Mind. This tour follows a successful 2025 run across Norfolk and Suffolk, so it's had some time to find its feet before it reaches us.
Reflect Productions does more than just put on shows, too. They run 'The Next Stage', a 38-week community drama programme for people facing barriers like anxiety, low confidence or social isolation, so the work on stage sits alongside a practical side to what they do. If you've ever felt that mental health is something we don't talk about enough, or if you've lived through some of the things the show touches on, this is one of those nights that feels like it's talking to you rather than at you.
