Corkscrew Theatre's dark, atmospheric reimagining of Robert Louis Stevenson's Victorian classic, adapted for the stage by Neil Bartlett.
Corkscrew Theatre brings Jekyll and Hyde to Cambridge Junction from Monday 18 January to Friday 22 January, with a performance at 7:30 PM each night. It's a reimagining of Robert Louis Stevenson's Victorian classic, adapted for the stage by Neil Bartlett.
This isn't a straight retelling. The production turns the story inside out, placing a woman at its heart and giving her agency in a world where Victorian society would normally deny her a voice. Around her, the boundaries between respectable society and the darker impulses beneath it begin to fracture, so the familiar struggle between the two halves of one man becomes something broader. Corkscrew Theatre describes it as a dark, unsettling and surprising take on the gothic classic, and the adaptation by Neil Bartlett is what shifts the focus.
Corkscrew Theatre is known for its inventive, visually imaginative productions and for bringing fresh theatrical approaches to familiar stories, and this fits that pattern. The show runs about an hour and 40 minutes including the interval, and it's recommended for ages 12 and over, with under-14s needing to be accompanied by an adult.
