Robinson College's Brickhouse Theatre Company stages Stephen Sondheim's musical Follies, the first Cambridge production since 2008, to mark the college's 50th anniversary.
Robinson College is bringing Follies to the Brickhouse Theatre from 20 to 24 October, the first Cambridge production of the show since 2008. It's a big one: Stephen Sondheim's Tony and Olivier award-winning musical, with a book by James Goldman. The story is set in New York in 1971, on the stage of the Weismann Theatre the day before the building is due to be demolished. Thirty years later, the Follies girls gather to drink, sing and lie about themselves, turning in numbers like 'Broadway Baby', 'Losing My Mind' and 'I'm Still Here'.
There's a bit of history to this one beyond the script. The Brickhouse has been the resident home of the college's Brickhouse Theatre Company since 1998, but it's been three years since they put on a student production and seven since their last musical. This production re-opens the theatre, and it arrives just ahead of the college's 50th anniversary in 2027.

Directing is Dhyan Ruparel, a first-year Robinson student and the company's artistic director. It's a large-scale musical, so there's a fair bit of cast and crew behind it. The run is 20 to 24 October, with evening performances at 7:30pm and a matinee at 2:30pm on Saturday 24 October. Tickets start from £9.50.
