Live show by Duke Special, the music project of Belfast's Peter Wilson, at Cambridge Junction.
Duke Special plays Cambridge Junction on Thursday 22 October, with doors opening at 7pm and the music starting at 8pm. It's the project of Peter Wilson, a Belfast musician who's spent the last couple of decades working across a few different worlds. He's released 17 albums and EPs and toured the world, but he's also stepped well beyond the usual gigging circuit.
That wider reach is part of what makes him a bit of a curious figure. He's as much about theatre and poetry as he is about music, and his interests run from books and art to love, life, redemption, death and 78rpm records. He's written for the stage, too: he composed the score for Deborah Warner's 2009 production of Mother Courage and Her Children at London's National Theatre, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York once commissioned him to write original songs based on photographs for an exhibition by Stieglitz, Steichen and Strand. He still performs live, and the format can change from night to night — he's played solo, as a duo, with a full band, a string quartet or an orchestra.
