Live show by corto.alto, the stage name of multi-instrumentalist Liam Shortall, within the Cambridge Jazz Festival.
corto.alto plays Cambridge Junction on Wednesday 25 November, as part of the Cambridge Jazz Festival. The name is the stage name of Liam Shortall, a multi-instrumentalist producer, composer and performer; it's a nod to his Irish-Spanish heritage, translating as 'short.tall' in Spanish.
His debut album, Bad With Names, earned a 2024 Mercury Music Prize nomination and took him to hundreds of shows worldwide. That run included a sold-out KOKO date in London after he won Breakthrough Artist at the AIM Awards, more than 40 shows across the US and Europe in 2026, and festival appearances at We Out Here, WOMAD and Montreal Jazz Fest. His sound draws on club culture and electronic music alongside classic hip-hop, soul and funk, and he's been championed by Gilles Peterson, Sian Eleri, Jamz Supernova, Deb Grant and KCRW.
