Natural historian Chris Packham shares stories from his life and shows specimens from his collection in a talk about the state of the natural world.
Chris Packham brings World of Wonder: A Planet on the Edge to the Cambridge Corn Exchange on Monday 16 November, starting at 19:30. For nearly forty years, Packham has been one of the UK's most recognisable voices on nature, a reputation built on screen work like The Really Wild Show, Springwatch, Inside Our Autistic Minds and Earth. This show is as much a personal history as a call to action.
He starts with his own childhood bedroom, filled with feathers, skulls and jam-jars of tadpoles, snakes and lizards, and works from there to the practical things people can do to make a difference in a time of crisis. It's a look at how a lifelong curiosity about the natural world turns into something more urgent. Along the way, he brings out extraordinary specimens from his own collection for the audience to see up close and shares stories from behind the camera that haven't made it into his television work.
It's a night that sits between the personal and the political: the stories of a boy with a collection of jars on one hand, and a clear-eyed look at the state of the planet on the other. If you've followed his work over the years, it's a chance to see the person behind the presenter.
