Monthly sailing club meeting with a talk by Lucy Bruzzone on her time as base leader at Port Lockroy in Antarctica.
Camsail are back at the Cambridge and County Bowling Club on Wednesday 11 November, with Lucy Bruzzone taking the floor to talk about Penguins, Yachts and a Post Office in Antarctica. It's part of their monthly run of meetings that goes from October through to March in central Cambridge, mixing talks by members and invited speakers with a bit of socialising in a nautical atmosphere. The club's programme usually leans towards the sea and exploration, and this one fits right in.
Bruzzone is drawing on her time as Port Lockroy Base Leader on Goudier Island, home to the first permanent British scientific research base in Antarctica. The place is shared with a thousand penguins, a post office, and a small team of four for the season. She'll be talking about what it's like to run the base and how the journey south brought her back to sailing. If you've ever wondered what it's like to live and work at the end of the world, this is your chance to hear it first-hand.
