A free collaborative collage workshop led by artists Maisy Aykroyd and Sid White Jones and curator Holly Rose O'Brien, exploring personal and community heritage through found imagery.
Cambridge Artworks & Artspace is hosting an artist conversation and collage workshop on Saturday 17 October, from 1 pm to 4 pm, with doors opening at 12:55 pm. It's a free session led by artists Maisy Aykroyd and Sid White Jones, alongside curator Holly Rose O'Brien, who put together the group exhibition The Flowers Stand Silently, Witnessing currently showing at the space. The exhibition brings together the work of Aykroyd, Jones, and Theo Panagopoulos.
The afternoon starts with an introduction to the exhibition, the artists' practices and their work, followed by an informal conversation and a Q&A. After that, the session turns into a collaborative workshop where you'll spend the rest of the time collecting, cutting, editing and reworking imagery to contribute to a large-scale joint collage.
Two distinct ways of working sit behind the workshop. Sid White Jones builds his practice from collage, using discarded and collected images, slides and photographs. Maisy Aykroyd works in print, incorporating the philosophy and practice of Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging. The session is described as family-friendly and explores personal and community heritage through found imagery and natural forms, though it's listed for ages 18+.
