Dance-theatre piece by Katie Dale-Everett Dance pairing contemporary dance and live cello for babies up to 12 months and their caregivers.
A Dance for Us comes to Cambridge Central Library on Tuesday 1 December, from 11:00 to 11:45am. It's a dance-theatre piece by Katie Dale-Everett Dance (KDE Dance) that pairs contemporary dance with live cello, and it's made for babies in their first year and their caregivers.
On stage, choreographer and producer Katie Dale-Everett dances alongside Laura Careless, with cellists Rachel Dawson and Sarah Davison providing the live music, composed by Tara Franks. The performance runs for about 35 minutes, and afterwards there's an optional ten-minute movement activity if you fancy staying on. One carer described the experience as 'engaging, moving, welcoming, sweet, tender, caring' and said they were moved to tears by the collective slow dance.
At its heart, the show celebrates the relationship that forms in those first few months, with gentle references to pre- and postpartum experiences. It's conceived as a restorative, immersive experience for babies and their caregivers to share together. The company deliberately tours to non-traditional spaces like family hubs, libraries and community centres, aiming to reach people who have found new barriers to engaging with the arts since having a baby.
