An artists forum workshop for performance makers working with communities, facilitated by Viki Browne, focusing on peer learning and practice development.
Viki Browne is leading an artists forum workshop at Bristol Old Vic on Saturday 24 October, from 12:00 to 14:00. It's built around facilitated peer learning and support for performance makers who create or present work with communities or non-professional artists, so it's aimed at people who work with non-professionals rather than just professional casts.
The session is designed as a space to reflect on your practice, develop it, and connect with others working in the same field. Rather than a lecture, it's a forum for peer learning, so much of what comes out of it will depend on the people in the room and the work they're bringing to the table. If you're working with community groups or non-professional performers, it's a chance to step back from the day-to-day and talk through how you're actually doing it with people who get the specific challenges that come with that kind of work.
Viki Browne is an independent artist, director, and dramaturg, and she's also the artistic director and co-founder of Many Minds, a Bristol-based mental health and performance charity. She's spent more than thirteen years facilitating groups of all ages and directing participatory performance, so she knows the territory from the inside. That background in participatory work is exactly what she'll be drawing on to lead the session.
