Make Your Own Photography Zine

Arnolfini is hosting a photography zine-making workshop on Friday 4 December, from 14:00 to 17:00 in the Reading Room on Level 2. It's a drop-in session, so you can pop in whenever suits you during the afternoon rather than committing to the full three hours. The whole point is to experiment with photography, collage and zine-making, and you'll be working with photocopied analogue photographs.

Those photos didn't come from nowhere. They were taken during a series of 'Mindful Photography' workshops held at Arnolfini throughout November, where participants used analogue cameras to explore Bristol's Harbourside and then hand-developed the prints themselves. This session takes those images and lets you rearrange and recontextualise them into your own zine, so you're working with a local, analogue archive rather than starting from a blank page.

The workshop is led by Kieran Hayhow, an Arts Council-funded analogue photographer and darkroom printmaker. He studied Film at University College Falmouth and recently left the industry to focus on fine art photography; his work has appeared in several group exhibitions, and he held his first solo show this autumn at Negative Thinking Bristol. He'll be on hand to guide you through the process, so you're in safe hands whether you've never touched a camera or you're already into analogue.

It's open to all ages and requires no previous experience, so it's as much for beginners as it is for anyone who just wants to spend an afternoon making something. The only caveat is that children under 12 need to be supervised by an adult. It's pay-what-you-can, and all materials are provided, so you don't need to bring anything with you. That puts it from 14:00 to 17:00 in the Reading Room on Level 2 at Arnolfini.
