A gentle photographic walk around Bristol's Harbourside, introducing mindful photography and 35mm film camera basics, facilitated by Kieran Hayhow.
Arnolfini is hosting a mindful photography workshop on 20 and 27 November, with both sessions running from 13:00 to 14:30. You'll need to meet at the front desk by 1pm. The afternoon starts inside the gallery with a tour of Joy Gregory: Catching Flies with Honey, and from there it turns into a gentle photographic walk around the Bristol Harbourside, just over a mile in total.
The whole thing is led by Kieran Hayhow, an Arts Council-funded analogue photographer and darkroom printmaker. He studied film at University College Falmouth and spent years working on sets across film, TV and commercials before returning to fine art photography, where mindfulness, intention and process sit at the centre of his work. He held his first solo exhibition this autumn at Negative Thinking Bristol, and his work has appeared in several group exhibitions over the last two years.
That's where the 'mindful' part comes in: Hayhow describes mindful photography as the practice of using a camera to find moments of calm and attention within a busy life. It's less about the technical side of getting the 'perfect' shot and more about the act of looking. You don't need to bring your own gear, either — 35mm film cameras are provided courtesy of Kit Form Darkroom, so you can get stuck in with analogue film without needing to own a camera yourself.

If you're keen on the process, there's a second act to this: a zine-making workshop follows in December, where you'll use the images you took during these sessions to put together your own little publication. The photography workshops are £15 each.
