An introductory acting course for children at The Lantern Theatre, with a performance on the final Friday.
The Young Actors'theatre are running their first summer school week at The Lantern Theatre from Monday 27 July, with the course running Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm. It's an introductory acting course for children, so it's designed for those who've never stepped on a stage before. There's no prior experience needed — just a love of making up stories, acting out characters and using your imagination.
The tutors are all DBS-checked and are trained, professional actors themselves, so the kids are learning from people who've actually worked in the trade. Singing and moving are treated as just another part of acting, rather than separate disciplines, and they make it clear that students are never asked to do anything they aren't comfortable with. The whole week is about getting stuck in and finding your feet, not about hitting a certain standard from day one.
To round off the week, families and friends are invited to watch the work the children have created, so there's a proper chance to see what's been going on behind the scenes. It's a good way to cap off the five days and share it with the people who'll be most interested.
