A hands-on cookery workshop recreating festive Victorian recipes, following a tour of the Victorian dining room and kitchen at Preston Manor.
Preston Manor is hosting a Victorian Cookery Club: Christmas Special on Saturday 5 December, from 2pm to 4pm. It's an afternoon for anyone who's ever wondered what a proper Victorian Christmas actually tasted like, and it's for ages 18 and over.
The session starts with a tour of the manor's Victorian dining room and kitchen, so you get to see the spaces where the cooking and eating actually happened before you get stuck in yourself. After that, it turns into a hands-on workshop where you'll be recreating genuine festive Victorian recipes. It's not just watching someone else do it; you'll be making them yourself.
Preston Manor is one of Brighton's most haunted houses, and the estate still stages 'Edwardian Ghosts and Glam', so the building has plenty of character to it. The basement and ground floor, where the cookery activities take place, are accessible by stairs and lift, though the first and second floors are stairs only. The venue also welcomes people with Alzheimer's.
