Follow a festive trail around the theatre to discover how Christmas was celebrated 150 years ago, then create Victorian-style decorations.
The Theatre Royal is hosting a Victorian Christmas Family Workshop on Saturday 12 December, a morning session that takes you back to how Christmas was celebrated 150 years ago. It's a two-part thing: you start by following a festive trail around the theatre, picking up the details of a Victorian Christmas as you go, and then you sit down to make your own decorations in that same style.
The trail is the first half, and it's a bit of a scavenger hunt through the building, with the Victorian theme running through it. You'll find out how people spent the season back then, so by the time you're done, you've got a fair idea of what the holidays looked like in the mid-19th century. It's a good way to get the kids moving around the theatre before the making starts.
Once the trail is over, you move on to the workshop. You'll be making Victorian-style Christmas decorations, and they provide a range of different materials and styles to work with, so you're not just churning out the same thing as everyone else. You'll take home whatever you make, and since it's a family workshop, it's designed for you to do it together.

It all happens on Saturday 12 December at the Theatre Royal on New Road, starting at 10:30. A standard ticket is £10.50, and since it's a morning slot, it's one of those things you can get sorted before the rest of your Saturday kicks in.
