Urban Dk

Urban Dk is on at The Vault Contemporary Art Salon on Saturday 11 July, with the exhibition open from 11:00 to 17:30. It's a show of miniature urban dioramas by the artist working as Relic Art, and it's free to get in.

The work is built from found objects, reclaimed materials and street-level inspiration. These are small-scale urban worlds, constructed from the kind of things most of us walk past without a second glance, and they're detailed enough that you'll find yourself leaning in to see how they've come together. Relic Art describes them as blurring the boundary between sculpture, storytelling and play, and that's a fair way to put it: they're as much about the stories they suggest as the objects they're made from.

There's a bit of a personal thread running through it, too. Relic Art draws on a lifetime spent building, restoring, repairing and collecting, and the whole thing is a celebration of the overlooked corners of everyday life. It's that kind of work that makes you look at a scrap of metal or a bit of weathered brick and wonder what it could become if you looked at it the right way.
