A hands-on workshop where participants transform their dreamscape into graphic scores and bring them to life through music, part of the One Song exhibition.
Fabrica is hosting the Transform your Dreams Workshop on Thursday 15 October, from 18:15 to 19:45. The idea is simple enough: you take your own dreamscape and turn it into symbols and images, and then bring those to life through music. You don't need any musical experience to take part, and all ages are welcome, so it's as much for someone who's never touched an instrument as it is for someone who has.
The session takes its lead from the visual score at the heart of the concert Send it by the Water, which was shaped by the performers' own dreams and cultural traditions. That same thread runs through the workshop, with the focus on translating the images of your dreams into a graphic score and then finding the sound to match. It's a hands-on way of working with your own subconscious and turning it into something you can hear.
The workshop is part of the One Song exhibition programme at Fabrica, an audio-visual installation and community archive by artist Kadir Karababa. He developed it with Brighton's refugee and migrant communities, exploring how music carries memory, identity and a sense of home across borders. The whole thing was originally commissioned by Counterpoints Arts, and this iteration is supported by Arts Council England and Counterpoints Arts in partnership with BREMF and Fabrica.
