Brighton's longest-running and most popular open-mic comedy night, featuring up to 15 comedians performing five-minute sets of new material.
The Secret Comedy Club has its open mic, See You Next Tuesday, running on Tuesday 18 August. It's one of Brighton's longest-running and most popular open-mic nights, and it's the leading new-material night on the South Coast, which is exactly what you'd expect from an open mic: comedians coming in to try out new bits before they go into a full show.
The format is fast-paced. Up to 15 comedians each get a five-minute slot, and the room welcomes a mix of professional, semi-professional and amateur acts. That's the draw of a night like this — you might see a seasoned pro testing a new routine right next to someone doing their first-ever set. Because it's new material, you're hearing the jokes in their rawest form, before they've been polished up for a weekend bill.
There's more to it than just the performance, too. The club scouts the night for its weekend bills and for the Brighton Fringe Festival, so it's a bit of a springboard for the acts that work. If you're one of the performers, you can buy a video and audio recording of your set for £5, which is handy for seeing what actually landed.

As for the club itself, it's built up its intimate room over the last five years. It was voted Best Fringe Venue in the 2021 Audience Choice Awards and has been named the highest-rated comedy club in Brighton on TripAdvisor and Google Reviews. Doors open at 7 pm and the show starts at 8 pm, with tickets from £5.50.
